Sound proofing (sliding double glazing windows)
Hi, I am about to make some decisions to replace all windows of
my house for sound proofing purposes, the problem is that my contractor
told me it is always best to replace with double glazing windows that is
the push out type, however, l do have a serious problem with this, my
house grills, all of them are fixed outside, so l can not install the
push-out type double glazing windows, the only option is sliding windows.
So would l inquire your experience whether does double glazing sliding windows make a lot of difference on sound proofing? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!
This is a common question. Standard insulated glass is often
thin 1/8'' glass separated by an airspace. The airspace is sometimes
filled with Argon gas for thermal purposes. The sound isolation of these
types of windows will vary.
Actual soundproofing windows are made from laminated glass. Like the
windshield on your car. If you need significant sound isolation look for options that use laminated glass, not thermal window glass.
We've got double paned standard push up to open windows
throughout the house. We can barely hear the dogs from next door barking.
Sirens go past at night and don't wake us up. We often sleep through
thunder storms.
